Interview with Peter Aerts
written by Marcus Tomschi

In his post tournament interview Peter Aerts talks about his fights, Junichi Sawayashiki and his injury during the final.

Did the last jab give you damage?
I was not given damage by the punch but when I tried to step in, my leg went into a different direction somehow and it hurt my knee.

What's your impression of the tournament?
I finished the 1st round with pretty good feeling. I lost my stamina in the 2nd round so I wanted to finish as fast as I could in the 3rd round. But the fight was over before I could do my own attacks, so I'm kind of disappointed.

Do you have any advice to Sawayashiki about his fight?
My game plan was to give pressure and stop his move. He may have lost because he was affected by the pressure.

What do you think he needs to become a good fighter?
I think he needs more experience than power and to build his body in order to fight and win in the heavyweight matches of K-1.

The popularity of K-1 is growing rapidly. What does K-1 mean to you?
I have been fighting in K-1 since the very first tournament, so it is almost my life. I think I can still go for 3-4 more years.

Do you have any plans for your life after K-1?
I have plans to manage a gym or been offered some business partnership, but for now I want to concentrate on my fights.

How was the fight with Semmy?
This time it finished so quick and I was not able to do anything of my fight in such a short time. The last fight with him was a hard match and it was really good because I could produce a visible result of my training.

How is the damage to your knee?
It's my right knee. It's kind of disjointed and feels some water in it. I also hurt my ligament.
